July In Georgia
The streets of Decatur yielded this stylish couple and their love of stripes. At left is George Lundeen's Valentine. On that warmest of afternoons, I thank Worthmore and Wild Oats and Billy Goats for giving me water.

Bikes And Bites This Saturday
The July Heels On Wheels ride is a date night. Yes, gentlemen are invited to a 6pm rendezvous at the Inman Park train station. From there, a meandering route will find dinner in Terrace at the Ellis Hotel. Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, Central Atlanta Progress and Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week have joined forces to offer Saturday patrons valet parking for their bicycles at 191 Peachtree. To make your H.O.W. reservation, rsvp to jessica@atlantabike.org.
See you there!

In Decatur: A Cyclist Braves The Heat
dress: I ♥ RONSON
shoes: Keds
bicycle: vintage Ross 3-speed
Cyclists agree: riding resembles flying. With little more effort than walking, our legs propel us faster than we can run. Silver spokes flashing in sunlight lift both bodies and souls. Those sensations remain as liberating as your first ride's, so feel like a kid again. Turn your commute into exercise. Leave the automobile at home or day-park it for free at a MARTA station. The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition offers welcoming advice for newbies and opportunities for anyone to make a difference. Ride on!

Keeping Cool In Little Five Points
romper and belt: Salvation Army, Key West
shoes: Banana Republic
sunnies: Urban Outfitters
parasol: Virginia-Highland boutique
Parasols make a lot of sense in our southern climate, not to mention their allure. Don't wilt in the heat. Cover your heads. Brian Hadden of A Thrift Life found admirable millinery and haberdashery at the Decatur Arts Festival. Use sunscreen and stay hydrated. Lateley I've been offered bottled water in Billy Reid and 310 Rosemont. Thanks for being so thoughtful.

Brodie narrates.
Train conductor Angel Poventude and Brodie swap rail stories.
One shudders to think of the risks taken by this sweet and gentle spirit in conditions quite at odds with his nature, yet photographer Mike Brodie, aka "The Polaroid Kidd", spent four years documenting life hopping freight trains. Sensitive portraits of Brodie's fellow travelers juxtapose their humanity to unforgiving steel, at turns both their refuge and peril. "Riding suicide" in one image, three pairs of feet shod in artfully chosen Nikes dangle inches above the cross ties, rails and wheels. Torn clothing is kept and mended, bearing its own stylistic witness to the journey. Vagabonding informs his landscapes, whose vanishing points beckon viewers with adventures yet to come.
Atlantan Lloyd Benjamin of Get This! Gallery was among the first to recognize Brodie's achievements with a 2006 solo exhibition called "Homesteadaz". The Baum Award for Emerging American Photographers followed in 2007 along with notice from American Photo and The New Yorker. A Period of Juvenile Prosperity is the title of his forthcoming book from Twin Palms Publishers. Thank you BurnAway and Get This! Gallery for the preview.
