See and be seen this Thursday afternoon in Piedmont Park, when
Heels On Wheels takes to the streets once again. More than good fun, this ride should raise Atlanta's profile in the national People For Bikes #EverydayBiking challenge. Riders will gather at 4:30 by the park gate where Charles Allen Drive meets Tenth Street. After a turn or two through the cycle track, they will follow the BeltLine and PATH to
Little Five Points for refreshments at The Porter. Rsvp on facebook.

At The Seersucker Social: Act V

Oakland Cemetery provided the setting for both images. Its gardens, architecture and history are ever an inspiration. Tomorrow the ladies of Heels On Wheels have chosen that Victorian park for their ride's destination. Say the organizers, "This ride is a no spandex ride - and yes, some of us really do wear our heels." If you fancy such company, meet them in Woodruff Park at 9:45am. More information and rsvp may be found on facebook.

What fun it was to look back on three years of Heels on Wheels. The ride returns to its Woodruff Park starting roots at 10am Saturday for an exploration of the West End. Susan Roe has planned a route that will pause at the Wren's Nest and Westview Cemetery before concluding with lunch at Smoke Ring in Castleberry Hill. If you haven't seen Mathilde Piard in a while, this might be good time to say thanks for all she has done and wish her well in Washington, DC. She will be missed, but we are getting a better National Public Radio with Mathilde as their new product manager for social and podcasts. RSVP via facebook.

I knew about multi-hull sailors pulling waterskiers, but a cyclist towing an camping trailer was yesterday's trivia surprise. Who knows what sort of lore lies at the nexus of city cycling and street fashion? Today's promised cloudy skies offer shelter from the sun, no matter your outdoor activity, and the Small Room Collective offers yet another reason to visit Decatur. Look for their vintage Airstream trailer next to Victory Sandwich Shop on Church Street.

The search for a portrait setting at the Heels On Wheels ride today found this vintage Airstream trailer, the travelling home of Small Room Collective. Lauren and Travis have brought their treasures to Church Street, Decatur for the weekend. Look for them next to the Victory Sandwich Shop. The graphic on the trailer's number plate is not wishful thinking. It commemorates French racing cyclist Alfred LeTourneur, who towed an Airstream trailer at Metropolitan Airport in Van Nuys, California in 1947.

Heels On Wheels: Shakin' The Rafters!

Reprising the success of their February ride to see the play Bike America, the ladies chose this month to visit the 14th Street Playhouse for a musical show, Shakin' The Rafters! If such a girls' night out on bikes appeals to you, follow them on facebook. New faces appear at every event, the pace is relaxed and last night's route was a largely car and care-free frolic from the Old Fourth Ward via PATH to BeltLine and on through Piedmont Park.
Heels On Wheels is a service of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition.

As May draws to a close, the Heels On Wheels ride promises to put a memorable exclamation point on our month of All Things Bike. First, it coincides with day one of the Decatur Arts Festival. Second, Amber Raley has declared it a 'Sadie Hawkins' date:
Ladies are invited to bring along a friend, date, children, or pet! All should bring sunscreen and a sweater because of the forecasted early chill and sunny skies. Third, there will be coffee and pastries at Houndstooth Road, where proprietor and guest blogger Jae Schmidt has returned from a cycle-centric, April tour of England. These images from The London Tweed Run are his.

For their March ride, the ladies met at Boxcar Grocer on Peters Street before touring the Castleberry Hill neighborhood and attending the 1st Annual SHE is Icon Awards Celebration. If such fun and fellowship appeal to you, please visit their facebook page to stay apprised of developments. Better yet, an opportunity exists for someone to organize the rides. Says Atlanta Bicycle Coalition Executive Director Rebecca Serna, "Hey everyone! It's time for me to pass the torch as one of the most active Heels on Wheels ride leaders. (I need to spend weekends with my kiddos - they grow up so fast! - and it's been hard to find time to organize and lead successful rides.) So I'm opening this fun and rewarding opportunity up to the group! Do you have a gorgeous route or perfect picnic spot you'd like to share with a group of rad women who ride? Create an event to remember and invite the women of Heels on Wheels to come with. Message or call me if you want to discuss. Thanks!"
