On The BeltLine: Northwest Atlanta
February 12th's excursion began in the gritty urban wilderness just beyond the Bankhead MARTA station and followed a busy rail corridor to the tranquil oasis of Tanyard Creek Park. Free-range chickens heralded another Mad Housers project.
This metaphorical rabbit hole leads to another world. Being canine was advantageous when the going turned rough and bicycling, futile.
Worlds collided when chic city styles took to the rails.
Attention Facebookers: Fiona gives her droll account here.
This stage of the trek was marked by numerous delays while the freight trains lumbered slowly past, giving us a rare close look at commercial technologies from which we all benefit. Architecture professor Sabir Khan mused upon the distinct and various purposes of utility rail cars, all jumbled together in a train, as opposed to the relative uniformity presented by shipping containers, regardless of their contents.
Others saw a nuisance and described "a whole herd of people on the tracks" over their radio.
At last, the sight of a lovely modernism placed us near Collier Heights. A friendly soul's GPS iPhone app gave its location on Walthall Drive, NW. Our trackside segment would soon end at this slope beneath the trestle bridge. Beyond the ford of Tanyard Creek, the BeltLine became pavement and opened a lovely vista across the flood plain to Peachtree Creek and the Bobby Jones Golf Course. None of us missed the harrowing passage on cross ties and coarse granite, but memories of an adventure shared were cause for smiles all around.

She has reattached most of these filligree buttons over the years while his distressed leather jacket records the passage of nearly one decade.
