At Chrome Yellow Trading Co.

Jess Smith is an old friend of Atlanta Street Fashion, thanks to a mutual interest in city cycling. Our paths crossed twice Saturday, first at an Inman Park restaurant and later in the newly opened Chrome Yellow Trading Co. on Edgewood Avenue. As photographers are wont to do, we made each others' portraits. Here she is on her blog, Lady Flashback.

In Oakland Cemetery: Un Peu d'Histoire

Oakland Cemetery inspires many people and on a recent visit there I found photographer Elliot Liss working with Kayleen Scott for his marvelous series of people in foliage. See what they made here and here. In fact, I took the plunge myself and have a new facebook profile picture to thank for it. Elliot first appeared on Atlanta Bicycle Chic two years ago in this posting, which went on to get ink in Momentum Magazine. Kayleen spared me a moment of her day and this gothic mood for you.

Revel Forces organized an extraordinary egg hunt in Brownwood Park. In addition to the plastic, candy-filled variety were forty original works of art in moods from silly to sublime. An old friend of this blog shared her Easter finery and new tumblr, amplifiedhighromance.

Snow Day Link Love

IMG_0307
Snug at home for the second day, I've shoveled snow from our porch and walkway, finished reading a lengthy book about Krakatoa by Simon Winchester, listened to a lot of music and count us fortunate not to have lost power for more than three hours. Pinning images of Bermuda and Jekyll Island has been pure escapeism, but what about virtual visits to places where wintry weather is a way of life? Chicago's Let's Go Ride A Bike recently posted about fitting studded tires for the season and offered a link to a look at stylish cycling by Eleanor NYC. Bundled up Finns in Helsinki populate the pages of Hel-Looks, a street fashion blog must-see, which brings me to Kate Styled Petite, a new site from an old friend, right here in Atlanta.

A stylish friend told me about sisters Kelsey and Lindsay, who have been blogging for one year now and just moved their fashion journalism from tumblr to its own url, You've Been Noted.
A blogging summit seemed inevitable and after much deliberation, took place last Friday at the Grant Park Octane. Once caffeinated, we set forth from the industrial setting of The Jane into Oakland Cemetery's Victoriana for more photos and gossip. We even found people for our blogs, bolstering my claim that 30312 is a fertile fashion field. Look for their take on our afternoon here.

A benefit of keeping a blog is being invited to stylish parties, like one the Junior League gave at The Wimbish House. Also attending and blogging about it was Sterling Swanson of Style Me Sterling. It seems we were drawn to the same subjects, who must have found all the attention quite flattering.

Of Sunday's Best Vintage, she says: "One dress every Sunday - This little blog was created to photo-document my vintage dress collection. I post a different dress every Sunday when I return from church! Most dresses are from my personal collection, however some will occasionally be for sale." Well lucky readers, that occasion comes 'round tomorrow, when Salvage returns to Ambient Plus Studio.

Rainy Day Link Love

Journalism is the life-long passion of native Atlantan Patricia Heys, whose many hats worn have included print and television. Now a blogger and photographer, she publishes loving vignettes of Atlanta and interviews that build community on Atlanta Heydays.

In a city legendary for its free spirits, filmmaker Kristin Tieche has created the definitive San Francisco bike blog. Vélo Vogue is a celebration of both her hometown and choice of transportation. She even has found the time to be the curator of a bike fashion group on flickr and shares those images with blog followers.

Wednesday Link Love

IMG_1802
Reading other people's blogs can be an occupational hazard. So easy is it to get drawn into the web that hours somehow evaporate, uncounted. This happened to me last Friday while reading Asian Cajuns. Cath and Lar posted some link love for a few of their favorite distractions destinations. We bloggers are a generous lot and to follow their example, here is the first installment of mine. Let them lead the way.

That such media stars noticed my efforts (They even gave me beer!) early in the going was valuable approbation. “Twin Sisters Blogging An Ocean Apart” is how today they describe their delightful musings on lifestyles in Atlanta and Edinburgh. I once spent a day in the Scottish capital and found it difficult to leave. Now I can return just by clicking a mouse.

Author of another Best Of Atlanta choice, Jess Smith won her Atlanta Magazine prize in 2010 for blogging as Lady Flashback. From great outfits to DIY projects, Smith keeps it interesting. Her nightlife reportage is rooted in organizing the fun herself. I gratefully acknowledge that her first appearance on my blogs went viral in the then burgeoning world of cycle chic.
Nashville Bicycling
Long at the nexus of personal fashion blogging and bicycle commuting, Let’s Go Ride A Bike has emerged as North America’s leading voice for cycling advocacy, something for which all who ride may be thankful. These ladies should have bike lanes named for them. Dottie in Chicago and Trisha in Nashville share their experiences, both joyful and challenging, of daily life on two wheels. While written for women, LGRAB gets a surprising number of comments from men. Such is the strength of community.
