In Oakland Cemetery: Lacy Layering

A dancer, she takes naturally to layering. Her scarf is a souvenir of Highlands, North Carolina. Its pom pom fringe plays well with the zigzag pattern and the subtle polka dots in her vintage skirt.

From Knoxville: A Lesson In Urban Planning

dress: 1980's vintage from the Salvation Army
3/4 jacket: Moon Collection from Fizz
shoes: Bogs from Mast General Store, Knoxville
Knoxville's Market Square is a lively testament to the power of a pedestrian plaza. Spaces within the adjacent parking garage cost a mere dollar per hour and all were filled to its sixth floor rooftop Thursday afternoon while happy people ice-skated, shopped, dined and played in the surrounding city center. Many Atlantans have said so and I second every one of them: close Euclid Avenue between Moreland and Colquitt Avenues to traffic and all of us will behold something magical.

Nashville Bicycling
Long at the nexus of street fashion and bicycle commuting, Let's Go Ride A Bike is the go-to blog for sharing stories of urban life on two wheels. Dottie in Chicago and Trish in Nashville express the view that if we can do it, so can you. Reading LGRAB is something like riding in a group; the hill may be steep but dozens of others are climbing it, too. Their popularity is well-earned. Ladies, thanks for your kind words about Atlanta Bicycle Chic and Atlanta Street Fashion.

Have You Seen "Belles 'n' Beaux"?

photos from Belles 'n' Beaux
It would be wonderful to encounter any of these people on the street, but they arrived here from a new blog, Belles 'n' Beaux. I admire their choices, presentation and vow of equal opportunity. Say the protagonists:
Fascinated with all forms of creative expression: art, culture, design, fashion, music, craft, etc… More specifically, interested in creation when filtered through a Southern lens. This is a forum we hope will inspire dialogue regarding aesthetically appealing treasures we’ve stumbled upon and styled. After all, what’s wrong with beauty?

On Thirteenth Street: A Walk With Her Best Friend

IMG_7842 IMG_7829
Mr. Rags was being exercised before the start of his holiday road trip when I encountered them in Midtown. Lucky they are. Our little friend must remain here in a kennel while we venture forth to see distant family and friends. Merry Christmas!

I.C.E. Prize Winner

Christmas party 121811_c

The Indie Craft Experience and Atlanta Street Fashion congratulate J. on this Christmas party look. Her feathery headdress and vintage velvet won a $50 credit at the I.C.E. Pop-Up Shop in Criminal Records, where hand crafted and re-purposed items invite us to write layers of our own meaning upon their intrinsic whimsies. Support of the local creative economy has never been more important or so easily expressed. Add some jingle from the amazing C.R. collection and arts patronage becomes your gift to Atlanta.

A Personal Twist On Euclid Avenue

Take one suit from the J. C. Penney outlet, add hat and earrings from local boutique Pink Zebra and finish with Charlotte Russe pumps for an elegance all her own.

A Visitor From New York In Virginia-Highland

I am meeting a lot of stylish visitors to Atlanta - 'tis the season. A vintage collector, he identified Geoffrey Beene as the shirt's designer and GAP the source of his belt. Timeless high-top Chucks finish his signature look.

Green And Gold In Midtown

Englishman Martin Newell once sang about The Green Gold Girl Of The Summer. As autumn 2011 draws to a close, today's fashion find could well define the Atlanta winter season.

On Ponce De Leon Avenue

Atlanta 1989
Atlanta's other thoroughfare, Ponce De Leon Avenue, divides the city's north from south as Peachtree Street does the east from west. More rough and tumble than the better known boulevard that links Underground Atlanta to Buckhead, it provided a gritty, urban setting for Fred Willard's 1997 hard-boiled masterpiece, down on Ponce.

Out And About In Emory Village

Today's hunt turned into something of a blogging summit when I encountered Lilly Lampe of Out There Atlanta. Her entertaining and informative podcasts of city happenings fulfill the promise of our new journalism. Look for a cross-blog collaboration early in the new year.

A Visitor From Music City

Nashville people always impressed the readers of my Chattanooga blog. This man brings the tradition to Atlanta Street Fashion. Special thanks to a sharp-eyed sister-in-law, who spotted him on the patio of JavaVino.
