At Gucci

IMG_0085
IMG_0080
What do Peachtree Street lunch hours, Virginia-Highland weekends and random moments in Little Five Points have in common? All offer some of Atlanta's best free-range style hunting. Buckhead often rocks its glamorous looks in malls beyond the reach of a street photographer, so thank goodness for parties.
Last night Gucci and Gentlemen's Quarterly gave one at Phipps Plaza. Grazie mille, Caren West, for the invitation. Hosting the event were celebrity chef Hugh Acheson, former Atlanta Falcon Coy Wire, blogger E. Vincent Martinez of fashionado.net and GQ's Executive Merchandising Stylist Brett Fahlgren. Such esteemed company drew quite the crowd. Enjoy.

Entrepreneurs are creative people. Seeing needs and finding novel ways of fulfilling them requires original thinking. Such was the advice given me at the National Association Of Women Business Owners April Mixer. While it is not now in the budget, wrapping my car in Atlanta Street Fashion livery would bring the blog lots of notice. From Buckhead to College Park and the West End to Decatur, it covers a lot of ground. Even parked conspicuously while I ride away on the bike, people would get the message. Maybe for Christmas....
What I did take away from that happy hour was a renewed sense of mission, which shows in the layout. Please take a moment to enjoy the updated portfolio of youth and pets portraiture. Celebrating the beauty around us, be it something worn in the streets or part of your own life, are the images I love most. Thank you, NAWBO, for this wonderful networking opportunity.

Decatur Earth Day Festival In Oakhurst

IMG_2535
IMG_2537
Some neighborhoods march to their own beats. The Oakhurst vibe provided a note of whimsy for a memorable Earth Day Festival in Decatur. One of three tuba players in today's parade band, The Black Sheep Ensemble, she tweets her busking schedule here and somehow found the time to make her tuxedo.

Saturday At The Dogwood Festival

My day on the streets began with a bracing espresso, this one from Aurora in Virginia-Highland. They departed while I waited in the lengthy queue (Should I lose my place to follow them?), but our paths would cross again in Piedmont Park. Don't you love couples who dress to the same vibe?

Talk about sharing a creative idea: Tré Lilli made the dress that her mom models by dad's painting.

Pops Of Red: A Legacy

Says her mother of this dress:
"My bag was packed with what few items of civilian clothing I had with me. After all, a combat nurse has little need for sundresses and pearls. Having worked long and emotionally-charged days for five months in Vietnam as a military nurse, I was ready for a short break to the reality of the civilian world.
"Only 21 years of age, I had never been out of the USA until I volunteered to serve in Vietnam. I was quite excited to be going to a foreign country and particularly going to Bangkok with a friend. All I really knew about Bangkok was from fellow staff returning from R&R. The city was a bit overwhelming for a country girl. Multitudes of people were rushing around doing the tasks of everyday life, on bikes, rickshaws, and dangerously fast moving cars with drivers who never heard of road rules.
"The French food was especially delicious; it surely beat brushing the flies off the food in the mess hall to see what was being served! The hotel was more luxurious than I could have imagined. Its nicest aspect was the absence of the sounds and smells of war.
"Shopping was a high priority adventure for me. In one Thai shop I found all the clothing to be handmade and mostly in colorful quality cotton. I spotted a pink and blue floral 'shift' and hoped it would fit. Not only did it fit, it was comfortable in the humidity. I wore it several times that week.
"Now, 41 years later, I am thrilled and amused to see my daughter wear it and love it! Was I really that small once?"
