Let there be Bees on Earth declares The Wylde Center, which hosts an Earth Day celebration of those all important pollinators in their Oakhurst garden Sunday afternoon. Led by the Seed and Feed Marching Abominable Band, the parade begins at 12:30 from Harmony Park (East Lake Drive at Oakview Road). Please follow this link to the Facebook event page for more doings. See you there!
Roberta and I met at Pints For Parks, when I served on the host committee for that Park Pride fundraiser. With my Kavarna show date looming, I was need of a memorable graphic. One idea begat another and we agreed to a service swap: her design skill in return for mine in portraiture. Thank you, Roberta for giving the blog's fifth anniversary such a lovely statement. The exhibition continues through the end of this month at 707 East Lake Drive in Decatur.
Atlanta Street Fashion came to life in the heat of summer five years ago. Its spontaneous salutes to creativity, surprise and theatricality in matters of dress are a valentine to our city, its neighborhoods and their denizens. A few favorites from five years of blogging are on display for the month of July at Kavarna in Oakhurst Village.
After a week of fluctuating forecasts from sixty-six (!) to seventy-one (gulp) degrees, I rode Saturday in shorts and two shirts. Tweed tomorrow? The weather gods smiled upon us because a delightful chill and wan sunshine greeted the jolly and stylish crew in Decatur Square Sunday. That riders gathered well in advance of the two o'clock starting hour showed a deep wellspring of enthusiasm. Original looks and sweet rides abounded. Here are but a few highlights. For more such goodness, please look at and consider posting your images to the flickr group Houndstooth Road Autumn Tweed & Vintage Ride 11/11/12 and the ride's facebook page.
Some neighborhoods march to their own beats. The Oakhurst vibe provided a note of whimsy for a memorable Earth Day Festival in Decatur. One of three tuba players in today's parade band, The Black Sheep Ensemble, she tweets her busking schedule here and somehow found the time to make her tuxedo.
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. Coco Chanel
