At MODA
What do folding rulers, corkscrews and teabags have in common? All were chosen by the Vitra Museum in Germany for the travelling exhibition, Hidden Heroes. The Genius of Everyday Things, on view at MODA through May 11. While it is worth knowing that graphite pencils democratized writing or that the post-it note owes its success to the failure of a glue, Executive Director Laura Flusche further noted that we poised on the threshold of a new way of obtaining things. The museum's trio of MakerBot 3-D printers stole the show at Friday's media preview. Yes, they produced that lacy tiara, the articulated link bracelet and another one that flexed; all this from a nascent technology.
