Paulos and her memory of Asheville | detail of chair seat repurposed as a palette
The maturity of these paintings belies their status as a debut exhibition. Already known for hoop dancing magic, Melanie Anne Paulos chose to reveal her inner circus at Hodgepodge. Mirrors, and a kitchen cabinet door, join the canvases to find new life as media. Mixing a somber palette, she illuminates her whimsies, and sets them in motion geometrically. Of a lonely, billowing, purple mass say she:
Loving you is like wanting to know the touch of a raincloud.
I can only feel you in the form of rain.
