More than seven thousand dollars was raised this weekend for the Atlanta Harm Reduction Coalition. Doing so required lots of sweets, high spirits, and a surprise appearance by the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable.

As winner of my portrait given to the Pints For Parks silent auction, she used the opportunity to try on a wedding dress. Working on location adds wrinkles of its own. We explored moods, and dodged showers, first at the Krog Street tunnel, then in Oakland Cemetery, but nothing dampened our spirits. If being the subject of such a photographic adventure (rain optional) appeals to you, please send me an email.

Sunday On The BeltLine

IMG_2169
Jessie Fream (at right) never met a stranger. As keeper of the Facebook group, Humans Of The Atlanta BeltLine, she gives her new friends a forum to share their stories. I was present at this encounter outside the recently rebranded Atlanta Bicycle Barn. The puppy is called Nahs, which is an acronym of North Atlanta High School. A few minutes later we would meet a teacher from that school, proving once again how interconnected our small world is. News of Ms. Fream, the bike shop, and Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. makes thoughtful reading in this Creative Loafing story by David Schick.

Amazing things happen when people take over the streets. Aren't you glad to live where we do so frequently? This Sunday afternoon 2.7 miles of Peachtree Street from Edgewood Avenue to 17th Street becomes the scene of all manner of fun. As ever, the event opens with a bicycle parade. Wear your Halloween best, and join the parade. Line up at 17th Street begins at 1:30. There will be bike decorations for the first 50 cyclists. Streets Alive is an initiative of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition.
