The sun shone upon our Dogwood Festival and promises to do the same for Streets Alive tomorrow. The fun starts at 2 o'clock, but get jump on things by riding with the Phoenixes from Atlanta BeltLine Bicycle.

If 'agrihoods' like Serenbe are the new golf courses, we have
Daron "Farmer D" Joffee to thank for this trend in developing. His epiphany came while eating a turkey sandwich. Where did these ingredients originate and how far had they travelled to feed him? Organically grown and locally sourced foods are better for ourselves and the Earth. His new book Citizen Farmers takes stock of all he has learned from managing farms and csa's and teaching. Last night there was a reception for him at EcoManor, the LEED certified home of Laura and Rutherford Seydel.

Camryn and Jim are blog veterans whom I encountered outside of Ambient Plus Studio on Saturday. We'll be hearing much more from them in summer when their 'love child', the boutique
Henry & June, opens on North Highland Avenue in the former Wellspring Treasures location. This blog could not exist without coffee shops, so imagine my delight to learn that in addition to the clothing, there will be brewed to order drinks.

Finding Vivian Maier

The much anticipated Vivian Maier documentary film opened Friday at LeFont Theaters. Saturday, between mantinee screenings, Executive Producer Jeff Garlin answered questions and lent us his perspective to this remarkable story of a secretive life's work now being explored posthumously. A presumed European woman who was born in New York and worked as a nanny in mid-twentieth century Chicago, Maier left an enormous volume of documentary photography. She knew that her images compare favorably greats like Helen Leavitt, yet she kept both them and her motive for so doing, secrets. The task of revealing this body of work to the world has fallen to an equally remarkable historian named John Maloof, whose career trajectory has been profoundly shaped by his discovery. Garlin told us that not only has Maloof taken up photography himself, but has endowed a women's photographic scholarship at The Art Institute Of Chicago.

Button Flowers

Just in time for Easter, a fresh crop of button flower bouquets await your selection at Wild Oats And Billy Goats in Decatur. No two are alike and all are vintage, thoughtfully stacked and grouped. Stems are genuine floral wire and tape, of course. They cannot wilt, even in Georgia summers, and never require water. Yes, this post is sponsored. My wonderful wife makes them and fortunate will be their new homes. Crafty and designing folk take note: if you would like to reach burgeoning, stylish audience,
let's talk about putting your creations on Atlanta Street Fashion.

On The Road: Chattanooga

Chattanooga was briefly our home and the site of my first blog, The Chattanoogan. Between friends there and family in Knoxville, Tennessee remains a favorite travel destination. My most recent roadtrip included a visit to the Chattanooga atelier of Anna Victoria Design. We met last summer at the Atlanta Apparel Market, where she won the Buyer's Choice among emerging designers. With the Nashville Fashion Week looming in calendar, Anna paused from her busy day to show me around the place where dresses are made for boutiques like Laura Kathryn in Birmingham, Hemline in Mobile and her new webstore.
